Report: Nolan to Add Caine and Chastain to All-Star Cast

Christopher Nolan deserves to look smug; he’s netting an out-of-this-world cast for his upcoming film “Interstellar.” The movie is set to release November 7, 2014. (AP)

Anticipation continues to build for Christopher Nolan’s 2014 film “Interstellar.”

In the last week, Deadline has reported that both Michael Caine and Jessica Chastain are set to join the star-studded cast that already includes Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

The film, which is said to focus on “a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding,” is gaining steam to be a huge blockbuster next fall. The timing of its release (November 7, 2014) also makes it a contender for awards season. And with the cast Nolan is assembling, there is no reason to think it won’t be successful.

But that’s what is exciting about movies. Any director can have a flop. Quentin Tarantino can release “Death Proof.” Even Steven Spielberg can make one too many “Indiana Jones” movies.

Seriously, though, what could go wrong with this film?

McConaughey and Hathaway are both brilliant actors who kill most roles they are given, each coming off a great year. Chastain could carry a movie on her own, as seen in “Zero Dark Thirty,” so having her in a supporting role could be interesting.

And Caine is a Nolan mainstay, as “Interstellar” will be their sixth collaboration. He provides a sense of importance and drama to a movie that most supporting actors can’t muster.

The movie is being produced by Spielberg and Nolan. Nolan is directing the movie. Brother Jonathan Nolan, who created the CBS drama “Person of Interest,” is co-writing the script with Chris.

At this point, despite a minuscule amount of information having been released so far, it’s hard not to be excited about this movie. Only 549 more days until it hits theaters!
